Washington, p-v., capital of Wilkes co., Ga., 50 w. n. w. Augusta, 78 n. e. Milledgeville, 570 W. Situated on Kettle cr., a branch of Little r. It contains a court house, jail, a bank, an academy, a masonic hall, all of brick, 3 churches--1 Presbyterian, 1 Baptist, and 1 Methodist--33 stores, a printing office, 75 dwellings, chiefly of wood, and about 800 inhabitants.*
